Mr. Bernhard has served as the principal architect and designer on a broad range of diverse projects, ranging from public and private recreational facilities, master planned communities, park developments, specialty retail, commercial developments, hospitality, and unique one of a kind upper end custom homes.
As the principal design architect on many of the firm's most significant, award winning custom homes, he has an uncommonly empathetic relationship with people dreaming of their new custom residence. On multiple occasions, Mr. Bernhard was retained to design successive homes for clients looking forward to a repeat of the prior design experience. For an architect, there is no greater testimony to one's success than a record of this kind of repeat work. His ability to serve his clients at the highest level continues to be an inspiration to the entire firm.
Mr. Bernhard has acquired significant experience with programming and conceptual design on architectural projects as well as master planning projects. In connection with the firm's extensive mast planning work, his role managing various sized planning projects includes preparation design guidelines, thematic character, development standards and design or architectural elements to be included throughout a master planned development. In addition to involvement in the creation of design guidelines, and material palette exhibits for high end residential communities such as Estancia and DC Ranch, he has also participated as a Design Review Committee Member.
Mr. Bernhard's diversity and attention to detail provided opportunities to offer specialized design and consultation services, including travels to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for design consultation and construction administration for the Environmental Rowda, a municipal desert part-like setting, utilizing a recycled water irrigation system, an 80' tall passive cooling tower, with a 6,000 sq. ft. sculptural tent structure at the base-cooled by the tower. Mr. Bernhard also traveled to Tokyo as a design consultant to work with several specialized firms on site and facilities design for a self-sustaining saltwater community.
Business opportunities and a quest for experiencing a range of lifestyles as led to extensive tours throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, Far East, Middle East and Latin America. As a guest to an international natural stone organization, Mr. Bernhard visited quarries and toured production facilities in Italy, Brazil, Portugal, Egypt and in the United States, providing an extraordinary and unique insight and access to exotic marbles, granites, and other natural stone worldwide.
Hospitality projects include Marriott Hotels, a series of Residential Resort Towers in Mexico, Villas in Riyadh, KSA, server Golf Clubhouses in Cabo San Lucas, and throughout Arizona. A passion for hand-on involvement through the entire Design Process has resulted in exposure to a variety of projects including churches, medical facilities and a high-tech SCADA facility for a municipality client interested in signature architecture.
Involvement with committees, multiple client interests and coordination of numerous consultants has given Mr. Bernhard a track record of keeping various interests and activities balanced and accountable, while maintaining a focus on appropriate design solutions. Primary roles in representative projects fitting this description include: Cabo del Sol, Puerto Los Cabos, Punta Bella Los Cabos, Paradise Valley Country Club, Scottsdale Hangar One Private Jet Facility and several other committee or multi-discipline projects.
Mr. Bernhard has established an enviable reputation in the design of luxury custom homes. During his 30 years as a professional, Mr. Bernhard has spend a significant amount of his time as architect and designer for high end custom homes ranging from 4,000 sq. ft. to 32,000 sq. ft. Mr. Bernhard has designed large casas in Mexico and summer villas in the Middle East countries of Jordan and Saudi Arabia. He was the architect and designer for large vacation homes on Lake Michigan, in Telluride, in Rancho Santa Fe, and in Sedona. Mr, Bernhard's home designs in the local Arizona Sonoran Desert are located in the exclusive communitites of Desert Highlands, Desert Mountain, Estancia, DC Ranch, The Boulders, Biltmore and throughout Paradise Valley and Metropolitan Phoenix, including premiere hillside houses on Camelback Mountain and Mummy Mountain.
Mr. Bernhard's work has received national recognition, including awards from Valley Forward, Gold Nugget, NCMA, and Best in American Living. His work has been published in LUXE, Phoenix Home and Garden, Scottsdale Modern Luxury, AZ Food & Lifestyle, Green Living, Design & Architecture, Arizona Foothills, Custom Homes, and Builder magazine.
