Experience

Mr. Bernhard has served as the principal architect and designer on a broad range of diverse projects, including public and private recreational facilities, master planned communities, park developments, specialty retail, commercial developments, hospitality, and one-of-a-kind luxury custom homes.

As the principal design architect on many of the firm’s most significant, award-winning custom homes, Mr. Bernhard has an uncommonly empathetic relationship with people dreaming of their new custom residence. On multiple occasions, he has been retained to design successive homes for clients looking forward to a repeat of the prior design experience. For an architect, there is no greater testimony to one’s success than a record of this kind of repeat work. His ability to serve his clients at the highest level continues to inspire the entire firm.

Mr. Bernhard has acquired significant experience with programming and conceptual design on architectural projects, as well as master planning projects. In connection with the firm’s extensive master planning work, his role managing various-sized planning projects includes preparing design guidelines, thematic character, development standards, and design of architectural elements included throughout master planned developments. In addition to the creation of design guidelines, and material palette exhibits for high-end residential communities such as Estancia and DC Ranch, he has also participated as a Design Review Committee member.

Business opportunities and a quest to experience a variety of lifestyles has led to extensive tours throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, Far East, Middle East, and Latin America. As a guest of an international natural stone organization, Mr. Bernhard visited quarries and toured production facilities in Italy, Brazil, Portugal, Egypt, and the United States, providing an extraordinary and unique knowledge of and access to exotic marbles, granites, and other natural stones worldwide.

Mr. Bernhard’s hospitality projects include Marriott Hotels; a series of Residential Resort Towers in Mexico; Villas in Riyadh, KSA; and several Golf Clubhouses in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and throughout Arizona. A passion for hands-on involvement throughout the entire design process has resulted in exposure to a variety of projects such as churches, medical facilities, and a high-tech SCADA facility for a municipality client interested in signature architecture.

Mr. Bernhard has established an enviable reputation in the design of luxury custom homes. During his 30 + years as a professional, he has spent a significant amount of his time as architect and designer for high-end custom homes ranging from 4,000 to 32,000 sq. ft.. Mr. Bernhard has designed large casas in Mexico and summer villas in the Middle East countries of Jordan and Saudi Arabia. He is the architect and designer of large vacation homes on Lake Michigan, in Telluride, in Rancho Santa Fe, and in Sedona. Mr. Bernhard’s home designs in the local Arizona Sonoran Desert are in the exclusive communities of Desert Highlands, Desert Mountain, Estancia, DC Ranch, The Boulders, Biltmore Estates, and throughout Paradise Valley and Metropolitan Phoenix, including premiere hillside houses on Camelback Mountain and Mummy Mountain.
